Mid-summer Monday

Click for link and info
I went in this morning to get a "no menses panel" which is basically ultrasound and blood work, similar to monitoring. Blood work came back normal but my lining is a little thick so they want to start me on provera. I really don't want to be on more meds. And provera is just progesterone to take for a week and shock the system into a state lacking progesterone to induce the period. Seems counter intuitive if you ask me but apparently that's what works.

My oven saga continues. I need to decide if I want to upgrade to a convection oven. I've never used one so don't know the benefits but apparently it's all the rage, and if I'm already buying I'd like to buy a good one. My old oven was a dying 15-year old hunk of metal that barely clunked along so I think anything new would be good. In any case, we need an oven soon or we'll run out of money just on takeout food.

I've been distracted and disoriented at work. I'm either googling medical stuff or reading my file or researching ovens. I'm usually two steps ahead and am organized and on top of things. But these days I feel like stuff keeps sneaking up on me. For example, my supervisor asked me about something happening tomorrow and I smoothly transitioned into discussing it, even though in my mind I was freaking out that I had totally forgotten it was happening.

It feels like the days are flying by and things are so busy I'm barely keeping up. Very different than the usual summer pace and totally contrasted to the stand-still in other aspects of my life. Trying to enjoy the season before it's over.

  1. Hey, sorry to hear about your oven, though I think having a new one will be a revelation. (I've only dealt with old clunkers myself.)

Even sorrier to hear about the bizarre saturation of pregnant people in your work meeting. Jeez. I know that no one means to run anything in our faces, but I've been there many times. It hurts.

Sorry to bring up my (so far) good news, but believe me, a huge part of me is waiting for the other shoe to drop like it has every other time. I feel like I'm living just above a cauldron of simmering terror. Nothing is guaranteed. But I am grateful to have gotten this far, and I really, really, really hope we're both on the other side of this soon, one way or another.

    Hugs.

    1. Thanks. I completely understand because it was exactly how I felt just a few month ago. Enjoy every minute as long as it lasts. I know misery loves company but I definitely don't want any company on this side of things -- I hope to join everyone on the other side of treatment very soon.

  2. My advice about an oven is to get a pyrolytic self-cleaning one! I also got one that can be converted into two ovens, with an insert. I love that, but I love the self-cleaning feature more!

  3. Just got the new oven, but we decided to go simple once we realized that we couldn't adequately explain why we needed one with more bells and whistles. It was keeping up with the joneses without understanding the joneses. So we dropped out of the race and bought a very simple oven. Money saved :-)

  4. Yeah it can be really hard to focus on work when there is so much other stuff going on in the background! I hope you are still able to enjoy the Summer at the weekends. Sorry that you are in this sort of limbo phase at the moment.

  5. Convection ovens are wonderful but I find them not to be anequate replacement for the standard oven, especially for baking cookies, cakes, and such. You can buy an oven that has both or just buy countertop convection oven which is what we have.
