Microblog Mondays: Business

I admire people who have the discipline and motivation to work at home, either for a company or for themselves. Entrepreneurs are visionaries who are able to make their dreams a reality with a lot of hard work, ambition, and getting up when they inevitably get knocked down.

In my current job I can't work from home every day because I need to be in the physical space of the office to get my work done properly. If I did work from home, I already know I wouldn't get dressed most days in addition to getting easily get distracted by things like dishes and laundry. Still, I appreciate the people fighting for equal rights, not only for equal salary but also equal opportunity in the workplace so that one day when I am ready I may have that opportunity myself. The world becomes a better place every time a woman is entrusted with a leadership role.

People cope with loss in lots of different ways, but there's still some taboo on discussing infertility. I think one reason is because people feel they may be treated differently once others know they're struggling. There's no such taboo on talking about business and failed attempts at careers. Maybe one day I'll run a business that pays more money, but for now I see my current business as building a family. It makes me happy to think of our path this way.

  1. I think that's a good way to think of it. It's such a time and energy consuming process that it becomes a second job (at least). I wish there was less taboo about talking about these issues though.

    1. I agree. I think so many people could benefit from talking about it.

  2. I work from home. Well, I did, and for several years had a mix of work and volunteer work and was really happy. These days I'm not getting any work and need to do something to change it. I do feel a stigma about not being successful at the moment, especially amongst my peers. Though maybe some of that is self-imposed.

But yes, I wish we were so much more open to differences, to accepting that we all have different journeys, and that what is easy for one isn't easy for another, and that isn't a character flaw and can't necessarily be fixed by trying harder.

I'm glad you're happy with your path.

    1. Yes; it all starts with more acceptance and less judgement.

  3. Very thoughtfully put. As for the self-employed, working at home part... I worked at a million other places for literally decades. When I finally didn't, even though going out on my own was totally the right thing to do, it was so hard to get acclimated to not having that routine anymore. I had it so ingrained in myself about what time I had to be somewhere and eat lunch and drive home. For at least a year I felt like when you go on a roller coaster and still feel like you're on it hours later. I finally just trusted myself to follow my own schedule.
