Game of Thrones

While I wouldn't say I'm a total TV addict, I have few favorite hobbies and watching TV ranks pretty high on the list. In July I realized that there are too many memes and references to Game of Thrones that I don't get. There were conversations in which I couldn't partake and jokes I didn't understand so I decided it was time to not be a dinosaur and watch the series. I'm totally up to date and can.not.wait. for the next season.

After watching six and a half seasons back-to-back it's nearly impossible to wait a whole week between episodes. I understand there are only - what, 2? - more for this season and after that not only is season 8 the last one, but there's a chance it won't come out until 2019???!!! Say it ain't so!!!

At first it was too violent for me but after a while that stuff just blends in and I enjoy the complicated plot twists and excellent writing. In a world where there is so much unrest and disappointment, it's nice to get lost in a fantasy every so often.

  1. It's surprising how inured I've become to the violence and nudity!

  2. Yeah I don't like some of the violence but otherwise I love Game of Thrones! It was a good idea to watch it all at once as I often forget what has happened between seasons! Sad that there's only two episodes left.

  3. It doesn't leave you complacent like most writing these days. For the most part, you just can't easily predict how things are going to go. (You can never just assume the "good guy" is going to win, and who the "good guy" even is can be ambiguous at times.) And it's fascinating to watch characters continue to make choices after unimaginable things happen. Sometimes it seems life can't go on, but it does.

  4. GofT is an addictive show for sure. We don't watch it on tv; we wait fir it to come out on DVD then watch at our own pace. I have struggled with the content at times. There was one season where it felt like they were always killing babies, and I was like Really? And where do you think you go from there to shock people? Definitely there are things I wish I could under, but it hasn't actually stopped me from watching it. I like he unpredictability and how the characters who survive do end up being quite morally complicated. Some that seemed totally evil become almost sympathetic and some I used to root for become quite disturbing, eg Arya (and apparently that is a trending baby name...I shake my head)

  5. Definitely the best show on tv at the moment IMO. How long did it take you to get caught up? Well done!!!
